Breaking CCW News from the Washoe County Sheriff's Office...
For some time now, we at Concealed Defense have had great concern with the Utah and Florida CCW class. Those of you who have been through our classes or have spoken to us about it know those concerns, as we share them openly. One of those was the lack of a need to even fire a gun to acquire your CCW. It appears that the state of Nevada has agreed with us on this matter.
The following is a statement released on Monday June 29th from the Washoe County Sheriff’s office.
"Good afternoon everyone,
Our office was advised last Friday (6/26/09) that effective July 1, 2009
Nevada will NO LONGER recognize CCW permits from Utah or Florida.
Nevada will recognize West Virginia and Ohio on July 1, 2009.
Please advise your students accordingly.
If you have any questions please contact me immediately. Thank you. "
Please note that if you currently have a Utah or Florida CCW, you need to reach out to an Nevada instructor to obtain your Nevada CCW.
Who are we?
Our team has roots to Northern Nevada that stretch back some 40 years.
We are a group of industry professionals up to and including (Current) Law Enforcment, Security Professionals, Former Private Invesigators specializing in executive protection, self defense, personal/Group escort protection as well as other weapons specialized duties.
Our instruction team consists of an NRA Chief Range Safety Officer who is a Nevada P.O.S.T. certified police officer who was named “Top Gun” of his academy as well as a current Northern Nevada Police Officer who has been instructing for over eight years.
We are NRA certified to teach “personal protection in the home, Pistol, Rifle, Shotgun, Home Firearm safety, and all muzzle loading firearms”
We are found to be one of the highest rated CCW groups by the Washoe County Sheriffs office CCW division.
We attend quarterly training to ensure that you get the latest knowledge available. Most recently having completed the Larry Vickers four day advanced pistol and carbine combat marksmanship training course.
We look forward to sharing our level of knowledge with you.
WHY SHOULD I EXERCISE MY RIGHT TO CARRY A CONCEALED WEAPON?
There are several different reasons that you will be told that you should carry a handgun and just as many reasons that your mother will tell you that you don't need to.
These ideas and principles stretch across many boundaries and come from various backgrounds and socio economical differences. But all will tell you that it is your right.
I can list many reasons that I feel passionate about carrying a hand gun, but you must look deep inside yourself and ask if this is a commitment that you can make to not just for yourself but your neighbor or friend who you might one day be asked to save by drawing your weapon.
Even if you don’t feel you could do that, or will ever even need to make the decision to draw a weapon to protect yourself and others, it is much easier to live with the decision to do so, rather than the regret of not being able to.
Don't believe me? Ask anyone who helplessly witnessed someone’s life being taken from them and they had no means to help. If they survived that incident I am certain they would want it all over to do again, but this time with the playing field being leveled.
It is said that “A citizen who shirks his duty to contribute to the security of his community is little better than the criminal who threatens it.”
